Jamie Spencer (winning rider of favorite Bold Act-IRE)
“My horse got a bit strong going by the winning post (finish) the first time, and I just had to take my medicine and get him down to the fence and get him to relax. Then from the half-mile pole you’re gambling. You’re gambling: going through the gears and hoping the gaps will open. I got lucky down the straight. I don’t normally punch the air after the line, but I knew I got lucky and the horse got me out of trouble. It was a good team effort from everyone (on trainer Charles Appleby’s team) to get him here.”
Martin Garcia (rider of runner-up Cellist)
“I went to the lead, and I tried to slow down (the pace). I did as much as I could, but I did not want to hold him back too much. I was making my own pace all the way around. I got beat by a really good horse. My horse has run really good the three times I have ridden him. He ran phenomenal.”
John Velazquez (rider of third-place finisher Limited Liability)
“We had a very good trip, he settled nice. He kind of stayed the same pace. I had it clear through the whole way. I thought he was going to run, but he stayed the same pace.”
